From a job posting I learned that there seems to be a thing called Next Generation Firewall #NGFW. From what I learned so far it means Firewalls can do Deep Packet Inspection and act as a reverse proxy or VPN endpoint now. Really? Is this a thing or is it just a fancy marketing term for "we updated our product". I haven't seen "no hardcoded credentials" as a feature yet. Are there any useful additions to firewalls which don't increase the attack surface of the firewall itself?
